Assessing the Effect of Using Artificial Intelligence on the Writing Skill of Indonesian Learners of English

Electronic device with artificial intellegence application facilitates the process of learning-teaching in Higher School. This research integrates the use of artificial intellegence in teaching reading and giving feedback as independent variables to imrpove students' writing skill as dependent variable. Students' attitude on such teaching is the intervening variable. The research was conducted in Higher Schools in Makassar City. Research instrument was questionnaire distributed to 100 students' of Higher Schools, but only 83 were processed. The data were analyzed by path analysis. The research findings: 1) teaching reading with artificial intelligence application has no direct but indirect effect through attitude on students' writing. 2) Lecturer's feedback virtually has direct and indirect effect through attitude on students' writing. 3) Reading and feedback through attitude contributes 34.8% to students' writing skill improvement.

Applied Linguistics Theory and Application

Applied linguistics is an interdisciplinary field that identifies, investigates, and offers solutions to language-related real-life problems. Some of the academic fields related to applied linguistics are education, psychology, communication research, anthropology, and sociology. Theoretical Linguistics focuses on the examination of the structure of English in all its manifestations (phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, grammar at large). Other branches of Applied linguistics offered are, for instance, the acquisition of a second language and sociolinguistics. applied linguistics is a branch of linguistics where the primary concern is the application of linguistic theories, methods and findings to the elucidation of language problems that have arisen in other areas of experience. Today the governing board of AILA describes applied linguistics 'as a means to help solve specific problems in society. Applied linguistics focuses on the numerous and complex areas in society in which language plays a role.'

Influence of Social Media on EFL Yemeni Learners in Indian Universities During Covid-19 Pandemic

The present study aims to scrutinize the efficiency of using social media on EFL Yemeni learners in Indian universities during COVID-19 pandemic. This research covers four social media_ Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and WhatsApp. The research methodology that is used in this research is quantitative design using an online questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed online using a closed-ended questionnaire. Google forms was exploited in this study. The findings indicate that learners spend more time using social media for learning the English language, and listening is the most improved skill when using social media for learning the English language. Results also indicate that using social media makes learners acquire and practice new vocabularies and decrease their spelling errors. Finally, YouTube is the most used social media platform used for learning the English language. More research is needed to clarify the impact of other social media such as  Snapchat, Instagram, Wechat ,etc. on EFL learners. Further research is also recommended for investigating the impact of social media on each skill separately.
