Simulation of Hydrogen Purification Using Two Bed System Pressure Swing Adsorption

Hydrogen has various functions in chemical industries, as an agent of organic compounds synthesis, a reactant in hydrocracking, hydroalkelation, and hydrodesulfurization process in petrochemical industry, a reactant in hydrogenated fat process, a reductant agent in material industry, methanol production, silicon manufacture. Therefore, hydrogen purification is very important process for the industry processes. Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) is commonly used hydrogen purification process. Different utility used for hydrogen purification using PSA will change adsorbent's capacity and pressure to separate the mixture of gas into desirable components. In this study, pressure is varied from 2 to 10 bar and adsorbents are used silica gel and activated carbon. Hydrogen purification using two beds system PSA is simulated using Aspen Adsorption software. Based on the simulation result, it can be concluded that the pressure that gives most steady system is at 7 bar, which produces 99,92 % hydrogen purity using activated carbon in bed 1 and silica gel in bed 2.

Synthesis of Nickel (Ni) Doped HKUST-1 Using Solvotermal Method with Addition of Acetic Acid as Modulator

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology-1 (HKUST-1) is metal organic framework (MOF) that composed from ligand BTC (1,3,5-benzene tricarboxylic) and copper ions. The method used in this study is solvotermal with variations nickel ion doping and additions acetic acid as modulator. The purpose of this study is to increase the hydrogen storage capacity. The results obtained were characterized by XRD showed that the HKUST-1 and Ni-HKUST-1 has formed, showed by peaks at 2 theta = 6.7, 9.5, 11.6, 13.4, and 19.0.

Effect of Screw Diameter in Femoral Fracture Fixation Modeled by Finite Element Method

Research in the field of biomechanics related to orthopedic implants is rapidly growing in the world, especially for fixation of fractured bone. Fixation is a surgery to locate and attach a plate pressed by screws at the fractured bone. Most of the fracture bones sited in femur. This research focuses on modeling and simulation of plate and screw made of SS316L material for the fixation of the fractured femur using finite element method (FEM). SS316L is a material with good biocompatibility, cheap, and ductile enough. Modeling and simulation done using ANSYS 15.0 software. Simulation results are stress, strain, and total deformation. It is obtained that optimum diameter of screw is 4.5 mm with respect to minimum value of von Mises stress and deformation.
